Hiking Tours in Arenal, Costa Rica

The hikes around La Fortuna permit you to get in direct contact with the flora and fauna of the rain forest.

These activities are popular because we offer a variety of moderate exercise, long or short walks, extreme hikes, the enjoyment of the lagoons close by, the waterfall, the abundance of vegetation, and growing fauna in the middle of the forest.

The hikes last approximately from 2 to 5 hours inside the forest.

If you are a person who loves the kinds of activities mentioned above, we recommend the following options:

Light Hikes:

These hikes are enjoyable for the entire family, with children from ages 3 and up. You can choose to do this activity either in the morning or in the afternoon, in which case you have several options:

Morning Volcano & Rainforest walk. & Volcano Arenal Tour:

The hike on the trails of the Silencio reservation allows you to discover the richly vegetated secondary rain forest that embodies a variety of pioneer plants, spectacular birds, and trees that survived volcanic activity from the Arenal Volcano.

With a little bit of luck, you may even be able to witness bright lava flowing down the cone of the volcano.

Arenal Volcano & National Park:

The Arenal volcano National Park has trails that let you observe the famous volcano in action and shows how its surroundings transformed. Within its volcanic folds, you can enjoy the secondary forest filled with wildlife such as tropical birds and mammals, among others. Lastly, you will be able to walk over old lava rocks from 1992 and get a full view of the volcano and Arenal lake.

Hanging Bridges:

This tour includes 16 bridges about 30 minutes from La Fortuna, of Arenal. It is ideal for people who can appreciate the forest from different points of view, and flora and fauna of the area. With luck, we will see howler monkeys, spider monkeys, and white-faced capuchins, a variety of birds, snakes, coatis, armadillos, as well as pylon trees and many others.

Large and extreme hikes:

These hikes are a little more demanding than those previously listed. These trails are filled with obstacles during a trek of approximately 5 hours:

Cerro Chato Hike:

Cerro Chato is an inactive volcano that's as old as 37,000 years. It is about 3,600 ft high, with a mix of rain forest and cloud forest. This climb is a good option for those who love a good exercise in the beautiful outdoors. The difficult hike will lead us inside an old crater that, through many years, transformed into a lagoon that now holds an important aquifer that feeds through the entire northern area of Costa Rica, offering a large percentage of our drinking water.

Hike to Celeste River:

The beautiful Celeste river is located inside the Tenorio Volcano National Park. While walking through secondary and primary rainforest, you will discover the secret as to why this river has a bright blue coloring in the midst of a green world that's so abundant wildlife.
